Money Bomb update: An initial “Thank You” and a final appeal from Ryan Meili
One of the things we have prided ourselves on as a campaign has been our willingness to try new things, including our use of the Internet as a vehicle for connecting people and for political organizing.
Even so, when some of our people first proposed
The Ryan Meili Money Bomb
- especially when they told me no campaign in Canada had done this before - I wondered how well it would work.
But we can't be afraid of new ways of doing things. Our campaign identified an ambitious fundraising goal of $10,000 and we set to work to achieve it.
I am very gratified by the response we’ve received. Not only did we achieve our goal, we have already surpassed it. On Friday, Greg Carr and Susan Dusel became the first Canadians to put a money bomb “over the top.”
The Ryan Meili Money Bomb
worked the same way everything else on our campaign has worked - by lots of people banding together to accomplish something big.
The money is very helpful and the indication of momentum very encouraging. But the most gratifying thing is the number of people who gave what they could to support my campaign. Over 200 people have felt inspired to contribute in the last week, doubling the total number of people who have donated to our campaign.
Most of you gave the suggested donation of $34. Of course, others gave more, and some less, according to what they could afford. With donations from $5 to $500, from people around the province, we surpassed our goal and showed once again that New Democrats will come together to build Our Future Together.
It's that very spirit that I hope will allow us to win on June 6 and continue to use creative ways to renew the party in preparation for the next election and the next generation of social democracy in Saskatchewan.
We’ve still got another 16 hours before time is up. If you considered donating but haven't yet, there is still time to be part of Canada's first money bomb. Please donate online, or call us (306.370.4334) to arrange for pick up, or mail your donation to 338 Ave F S, Saskatoon SK, S7M 1T2.
